FAQs

HOW DO I KNOW IF I QUALIFY FOR DEBT COUNSELLING?

You qualify provided your essential expenditure and debt responsibilities exceed your income. A further prerequisite entails that your creditors have not yet taken steps against you.

HOW MUCH DOES DEBT COUNSELLING COST?

Your debt counsellor will work out a monthly instalment. The first instalment will be your fee. This amount may never exceed R8000 in a single application  (excluding VAT) and R9000 for clients married in community of property thereafter your creditors will receive a similar monthly instalment. If you earn less than R2500, you are exempt from the fee. For the first two years your counsellor will receive a monthly aftercare fee of 5% (excluding VAT) which has been built into your monthly instalment. This fee will never exceed R450.

WILL I HAVE TO PAY EXTRA INTEREST?

You will have to pay interest on the total outstanding amount but your counsellor will help you find the best interest rate.

CAN MY DEBTORS TAKE ME TO COURT WHILE I HAVE A DEBT COUNSELLOR?

No. As long as a counsellor is helping you manage your debt, no one is allowed to take legal action against you regarding your debt.

HOW DO I KNOW THAT MY INSTALLMENT PAYMENT WILL REACH MY CREDITORS?

Provided your counsellor is accredited, you are protected against any misuse of your money. Your instalment is drawn monthly by debit order from your bank account. All transactions are subjected to strict auditing processes.
